Shri Sahoo a retired clerk and a grow-out culture farmer from Sarakana Village, Khordha District, Odisha. Started aquaculture in the late 1980s. With the help of the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Khordha, Odisha. He expanded his business into fish breeding and seed manufacturing.
He is currently operating aquaculture operations on a 10-acre plot of land. Shri Sahoo is an innovative aquaculture farmer who is experimenting with new aquaculture methods. On his farm, he tested and polished several of the technologies created at ICAR-CIFA. For carp breeding, seed production, brood rearing, and grow-out culture, he employed scientific technology packages. He is also one of the first farmers in Odisha to use the ICAR-CIFABROOD, an unique brood stock diet created by the Institute for Carps, to achieve early breeding.
CIFA-BROOD is a premium carp broodstock diet. Firstly, It is well-Balanced in critical elements. Secondly, It promotes gonad growth and maturation, permits early spawning and boosts spawning response efficiently. Lastly, Multiple/repeated breeding, off-season and post-spawning recuperation are possible. This curated diet helps Shri Krushna Sahoo to excel in aquaculture.
Pioneer for future aquaculture
In 2009, the Institute created an Aquaculture Field School (AFS) on his farm to facilitate Farmer-to-Farmer Technology Dissemination, recognising his entrepreneurial drive. It has provided him with a platform to train and share his aquaculture knowledge. Thousands of aquaculturists across Odisha and other states is getting benefitted from AFS.
Due to it’s pioneering work in aquaculture and livestock. Also his zeal to train and motivate young aquaculturist bring Shri Sahoo into national limelight. Finally in the year 2020 he has conferred with Honorary padma shree award. On 8th November he received the Padma Shri award from president of India Shri Ramnath Kovind.
