Cole crops grow nicely in soils having ph range in between 6.0 to 6.8. Accordingly it should be planted and in case of low ph in soil, lime should be applied.

Cole crops can and may be prone to a variety of fungal diseases such as mildew. For protection from such diseases the best option is to choose healthy soil for the plants. Any leaves exhibiting signs of diseases should be immediately trimmed off. Moreover organic sulfur powder can and maybe used to treat mild cases of fungal diseases. Diatomaceous earth is also useful to eradicate many diseases in Cole crops.
